At least, that's what I would have thought as a kid if I had seen this. In my free time, I've been making adjustments to my signature character to make him look a little more realistic. I finished the unwrap yesterday, and I'm working on retexturing him now (still need to make some nice looking, open-fingered gloves and add a bump map to the whole thing). Not to mention, I added some Vray HDR lighting now that I'm familiar with it, and it's looking mighty fine. By the way, this is rendered with Vray 1.5 SP2 for Max 9.
I plan on redoing the rig from scratch, as there are some more complicated movements that I'd like him to make for the new demo reel that I'm planning. Just figured I'd post this today because I'm very proud of the way it turned out. ![]()

One of my favorite 3D pieces that I've done would definitely have to be my pool room. Even though I'm not so good at it, Pool is a game that intrigues me. Being the 3D animation nerd that I am, whenever I'm playing or watching a game of pool, I can't help but notice the various textures, colors, and reflections in everything that makes up the environment that is the billiards room. It's such a unique environment, and while I'm proud of my portfolio piece, I can't help but think that my presentation of it just isn't doing it justice.
So, I've decided to upgrade it!
So I realize that it's been a little more than a week, breaking my vow of updating at least once a day... My explanation for this is that I was vacationing in Florida and I refused to do any kind of work (that and we visited with my girlfriend's family, and I decided to be social instead
)
Today, I spent some time unwrapping and beginning to paint the monster. I did this in about 2 hours. Here are some images of the unwrap test:
Here is the flattened image:

This is Speed Ball. He is my first finished 3D character -- meaning that he is fully ready to animate within 3Ds Max. This was my initial attempt to get an entire project through the character pipeline. I'm pretty proud of the results.
This is actually an older render of Speed Ball. When I get time, I'll add to this post with some of the new ones rendered in mental ray.
